Today is a driving day - we are
on our way to Kano. It will take two or three days to get there,
depending on road conditions. After a quick breakfast, we packed up
the campsite and, after trying to fill the water tank - they had run out of
water, we headed off to Kano at 8:30 AM.

The one eventful thing of the day
occurred around 11:15 AM as we were driving on a road with heavy
traffic. As there were pot holes all over the place, the traffic would
often slow down or come to a complete halt. Once when we came to a
stop at one of these places, the whole truck shuddered and jolted
forward. We had been hit from behind by another truck. After
checking out the damage, we headed on leaving the other truck behind with a
smashed in front. There was only slight damage to our truck - the
spare tires stored back there absorbed the shock. The other truck was
not so lucky and appeared to be put out of action.

After stopping in Aruna for the
cook group to shop - a small truck stop with not too much, we had lunch on
the side of the road. We finished driving for the day at 5:15 PM, when
we pulled off the road and set up camp in a small clearing near the rail
road tracks. The cook group prepared a Nigerian dish based on
black-eyed beans and rice. We went to sleep just after dinner.
It has started to get cold at night, so it was nice to crawl into our tent
and sleeping bags as we had packed away all our warm stuff.
