It is another beautiful day in
Salvador and we miss some of it as Lars still needs some time to work on his
journal. The morning is spent doing that. Just after 11 AM we
head to find an internet cafe where he can hook up his computer and update
his website. The first two do not work, but he is lucky with the third
one. It worked and it is fast. Everyone is very helpful.

Once that is done, we decide to
head up the bay to a suburb of Salvador called Ribeira. We are told
that the best ice cream shop in Salvador is located there, so we think it
may be worth the trip up there. We take the elevator down and catch
the bus to Ribeira at the bust stop just at the bottom of the
elevator. The bus ride is quite nice as we get to see a different part
of Salvador. This is where the workers live and we can see how they
live. There is a mix of old and new buildings.

|
Once up in Ribeira we quickly
find the ice cream shop. It seems to be very popular - it is filled
with locals. We decide to get a big tub of ice cream each and we get
to sample eight different flavors. Most that we try are the flavors
made from the local fruits. The ice cream is good and we enjoy it, but
it is not the best that we have had.

|
We then head back. Finding
the right bus back is not as easy (as the bus stop has dozens of buses going
in all directions), but in the end we are able to find the right bus.
Once again we enjoy the ride back down. It is Sunday and the bus is
full of locals that are out to enjoy their day of rest. We pass back
through the working class neighborhood. It is amazing how little
clothes many people wear when they go around on the streets. Many men
are topless and most of the women, in particular the younger ones, are
wearing bikini tops and short skirts or shorts.

|
Once back at the hotel we have a
quick shower before heading out again. We did forget to mention the
view we have from our hotel room - it is five star. We look over the
bay and it is a fantastic view.
|
|
This evening we are heading back to Barra
for sunset. Paolo wanted to see what we were raving all about, so we
decided to go back to the same place, Barravento, as yesterday for
drinks and dinner.
|
|
We are not disappointed in either the drinks, food
or the sunset. Once again mother nature puts on a spectacular show for
us.
|
|
Once we have had out fill of the
drink, food and sun we head back up to our hotel. We have to pack our
bags as we will be living this town tomorrow. We debate whether we
should stay behind, but decide that it is time to move on. There are
other things to see in Brazil.
