Daily Journal Entry:

Today is a quiet day spent at the campsite.  Did not do much for most of the day other than relax and work on our journals. But we did need to get the truck ready to try and get her out of the campsite tomorrow.  Given the heavy rain overnight, the road was going to be very bad.

The idea was to try and get the truck out to the main road (which is paved) today in case it rained overnight and made the road even worse.  We got things ready and began the trip shortly after 4 PM - but we got stuck after only 50 meters.

Out came the shovels and the sand mats and we started to dig.  It was a tough job.  The rear left tire was really stuck and the hole kept getting deeper and deeper as we tried to dig down to solid ground (you can see how deep the hole got here in the picture taken the next morning when we went looking for the missing sand mat).  We wanted to get out before it got dark.  After lots of digging and pushing, we were able to get the truck out in two hours.  But we did lose one sand mat that got buried in the mud.  It took us quite a while to dig out the other sand mats which got forced into the mud by the spinning tires and were buried a couple of feet under.  We also snapped the chain put on the left rear tire and it got wound up in between the two rear tires.  As we will have to jack up the truck to take off the wheel to get to the tire, that will have to wait until we get to solid aground.  As it started to get dark at this point, we left the truck here and prayed that it would not rain over night.

We went for a refreshing drink in the bar and then had dinner.  As tomorrow is going be a tough day trying to get out to the paved road, we took a shower to wash off the mud and went straight to bed.
