Today we did not do too much - pretty much took it easy. After a late breakfast at 9:00 AM, we went into town. We walked around the town for a while - nothing much. Very dusty and sandy, with lots of people and cars in quite a bit of chaos. There are no real sidewalks - they are really just piles of sand, which is blowing everywhere. After about an hour we head to the internet cafe to check on our emails. We do not have much time as they are closing soon, so we just send off some brief messages that all is OK, we crossed the border and were about to head into the Sahara Desert for a 4 day crossing to Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania.
We head back to the campsite for lunch, and Lars spends the afternoon working on the computer, updating the journal and preparing it to download at the next available internet cafe. Jacqui goes to a hamam in the early evening before dinner. For dinner today, we are having a goat roast. They had gone out during the day, selected a goat, had it slaughtered and brought it back to roast on a spit. It was quite good.
After dinner, it is Lars' turn to go to the hamam with a bunch of the guys (they have different times for men and women). It is basically a Turkish steam bath, followed by a massage and a scrub down. We were squeaky clean when we finished. We got back to the campsite around 11 PM.
