Today is a driving day - we spend most of the day climbing back up into the Andes to get to Baños. It is quite an exciting drive. We drive along narrow roads that wind their way hanging to the side of cliff walls. It is a shear drop down if you make a mistake. There are a few tricky situations where we meet a bus going at high speed around the many hair pin turns. But we make it safely into Baños.
Once there, we check into our hotel and we have some of the afternoon to wander around the streets. It is a nice small little town stuck between mountains that shot up on all sides. They have a nice plaza with a large church. We wander around and see what the shops have to offer - not too much. We check our emails at the internet cafe.
Today is Craig's birthday, so we have to celebrate. We all gather in the hotel and then wander over to a Mexican restaurant for a group meal. We stuff ourselves on pretty good food and sample some of the Chilean wine. A cake has been pre-ordered and it is a chocolate covered banana cake. It comes in two rings and seems to have a pineapple stuffed down the center. It tastes quite good. Afterwards we go to the Hard Rock Cafe - a blatant example of copyright infringement (even down to the sign). Some of us make it an early night, while others carry on to 3AM.
