This is our last full day aboard
this ship before we arrive in Kirkenes tomorrow. Just before
breakfast, we pass by one of the other ships - the MS Kong Harald - that
also plies this route. While we are at breakfast, we arrive in Havøysund,
but it is only a brief stop. After breakfast, we head up to the
forward lounge and hang out until we arrive at Honningsvåg. We go
ashore briefly to gather some information for our return by car. This
is the port located on the North Cape island itself and we will be returning
when we drive south. Many people from our boat get off to catch the tours up to the actual North Cape. |
|
During this time we are also
doing our laundry, so that we can start our road trip with a complete supply
of clean clothes. After lunch we head up to the Panorama lounge and
hang out reading and working on our journals. We finally leave
Honningsvåg shortly after 3 PM. |
|
We then cruise across an open
stretch of water with land in the distance. At one point we approach
the tip of a peninsula which has one of the largest bird nesting colonies.
There are just thousands of birds - flying through the air, in the water and
nesting on the rocks. An amazing sight. |
|
At Kjøllefjord we make a brief
stop, going ashore for a short walk. After we leave this port the seas
start to get rougher and rougher. It is not too bad, but the ship does
begin to roll. Soon we retreat to our cabin to relax and get ready for
dinner. Our regular dinner partners have invited us to join them for
dinner. They have gone back to the buffet style for the last night, so
we have to arrange a time to meet for dinner. |
|
Fortunately we have dinner during
the time we are berthed in another port. It makes it a bit more
pleasant. We have a nice dinner and chat with our new found friends -
one couple are Swiss immigrants to the United States and the other are
German immigrants to Sweden. And us - not sure what we are!!! |
|
After dinner we retire early to
our cabin. We have some packing and organising to do as we will be
leaving the ship in the morning. |
